CELLULAR DRIFT

Marilynn Deane Mendell has produced art for over forty years. Her work has spanned multiple media types ranging from silk screen prints, non-silver photographs, water colors, graphite and colored pencils, and ink drawings. She has recently illustrated The Tails of Furry Logic a book about business for young people with her real-life drawings of animals and woodland scenes. The majority of her work has focused on the natural world like her botanical illustrations. She has been a featured artist in Buffalo, NY at Hallwalls Gallery, the Allentown Art Festival, The Kenmore Art Society, and locally a duel show at FCCA Gallery, and a previous Art Night. Mendell, president of the well-known consulting firm WinSpin CIC, Inc, is also an award-winning author and poet. She has supported the arts community her entire life, served on numerous art boards, and is a life member of

the AKG Art Gallery in Buffalo, NY.

This recent work called the Cellular Drift series came about as a means to explore the relationship of abstract art and daily walks in the woods as a wellness tool. Last year, after losing four dear friends in the space of two months, I sought and in-depth art process as a means to heal my grief. As a naturalist, who over the years has concentrated on real-life images, I decided that a no-structure approach might support a new kind of flow and a route towards peace and acceptance. Limiting myself to simple black ink on paper with no expectations, the series began to emerge. These images have indeed served as an amazingly beautiful tribute to those great and talented lost friends. There are now over fifty medium sized works and five large images. The originals will be offered for sale in a solo show in 2026.
